Master's programme director: prof. Enrico Boccaleri
The SISTEM Master's programme was created with the aim of training professionals capable of guiding sustainable transition in businesses, public administrations, organisations and territories. SISTEM is among the first postgraduate courses selected to be integrated into the EDUNEXT ecosystem, the new national hub for digital university education.
Potential candidates
This Master’s programme is aimed at those who wish to acquire multi-trans-disciplinary skills to be put at the service of companies and organisations working to be increasingly sustainable. Graduates (of minimum three-year programmes) in ecological, biological, chemical, geophysical, economic and legal disciplines can enrol on the programme. Graduates with proven work experience can also enrol as auditors to obtain certificates of attendance, either for some selected modules or the entire course.
Career opportunities
In terms of employment, the acquired skills could open up opportunities as:
- Sustainability manager
- Consultant in environmental impact assessment
- Consultant in sustainability and environmental management
- Environmental certification officer
Teaching project
The teaching programme is organised by topic and draws on a teaching staff from academia, business and the professional world to provide complementary basic and applied knowledge and skills in the scientific, technical and management fields. Company staff can attend the master's programme in its entirety or in part (individual courses or modules only).
The Master's programme takes an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the main issues related to sustainability and ecological transition. Topics covered include:
- analysis, management and monitoring of resources (renewable and non-renewable);
- impact assessment (social, economic and environmental);
- integration and certification of sustainability in business processes (supply chain, recycling and reuse);
- sustainability communication.
The Master's programme includes 300 hours of project work to be carried out in a company and leads to a First Level Master's degree worth 60 ECTS credits.
How the Master's programme is organised
The training activities will be delivered according to a blended model, from December 2025, which combines asynchronous digital training, largely consisting of specially created video clips, with the possibility of residential activities in person.
75% of the teaching (36 CFU) will be available online through video content and multimedia materials. The remaining 25% (12 CFU) will be dedicated to face-to-face training activities organised according to a compact, predefined schedule, also to encourage team building among participants.
The face-to-face activities will take place at the UPO headquarters in Vercelli.
The asynchronous video clips will be available in three languages (Italian, English and Spanish); designed for effective learning and accessible from any device; supplemented by interactive micro-activities; certified with Open Badges validated at European level (EU-ESCO), which can be included in your e-portfolio.
